there’s a heatwave moving through the US east coast and midwest right now with over 200 million people under excessive heat advisory/watch/warning and experiencing temps 90F+ with heat indexes well into triple digits and this feels foolish to say but please be careful

stay hydrated. you need to drink more water than you think. do not wait until you’re thirsty to drink water- if you’re thirsty you’re already dehydrated.

if you have outdoor pets do not let them out for too long. if the pavement is too hot for your bare feet it’s too hot for your pets.

keep all of your blinds closed during the day. if you have air conditioning don’t set your thermostat below 75F so you don’t overtax the system and help conserve energy.

the sun is at its peak between 11am-4pm so avoid direct sun exposure for more than a few minutes at a time during those hours.

if you do go outside: sunscreen. sunscreen. sun. screen. highest spf you can get your hands on.

keep an eye out for people - heat stroke presents differently than dehydration but both can be deadly.

consider giving money (if you have it) to local shelters and food kitchens- this kind of weather kills and places that help the homeless and people in need will be needing extra support.

I know most of you know all of this already and we all act tough or whatever but this kind of weather is dangerous and we all need to be careful and take precautions.

Don’t waste your money on spf higher than 50 but do re-apply every two hours, but probably more like every hour or hour and a half because you can sweat it off.
